You'll fly in an ECO-Star Helicopter:

ECO-Star Helicopters incorporate all the latest in cutting-edge technologies, materials, systems and avionics, and offer incomparable passenger comfort and fantastic sweeping views.

The introduction of the incredible new ECO-Star is the dawn of a new era in helicopter touring. Since the late 1980s, the American Eurocopter A-Star has been the tour helicopter of choice for professional tour operations worldwide. In Hawaii, it is the industry standard - favored by all the top helicopter tour companies for its open cabin design that affords a 180º sweeping view for each passenger. This feature has been further enhanced in the revolutionary new American Eurocopter ECO-Star - the first touring helicopter of the 21st Century.

Advantages of ECO-Star:

  • ECO-Star's 23% increase in cabin space over the A-Star affords significantly greater personal space for guests, along with improved visibility with over 65 square feet of glass for 180 degree unobstructed views.
  • ECO-Star features superior comfort; individual seats for every passenger afford the kind of shoulder room and personal space found in airline "First Class" seating.
  • ECO-Star features raised rear seating and wrap-around glass cockpit for significantly improved visibility from every seat.
  • ECO-Star is the first helicopter specifically designed for touring, utilizing the latest aircraft and avionics technologies.
  • ECO-Star features high-tech, enclosed "Fenestron," or "Fan in Fin," replacing A-Star's conventional tail rotor. Fenestron is: Safer, Quieter and More efficient, using 25% less engine horsepower, which can now be utilized by the main rotor system.
  • ECO-Star's state-of-the-art fuel control automatically optimizes main rotor speed for quietest operations and instant power response. Achieved with a "Full Authority Digital Electronic Control" (FADEC), utilizing dual electronic channels with one electrical backup channel and a third hydro-mechanical backup control.
  • ECO-Star's engine uses the latest "Grown Crystal" technology for turbine blades - increasing power, heat tolerance and fuel efficiency. This, along with the FADEC, is the same technology used in state-of-the-art airline engines such those on the leading-edge Boeing 777.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What should we wear? -- The helicopters are temperature controlled so dress comfortably. If you plan to take photographs, we recommend darker colors to reduce any window reflections. Hats are not allowed to be worn around the helicopters as they can fly up into the rotors and damage the aircraft. Hats may be held for you at the Heliport until you return from your tour.

Do you recommend taking an anti-motion sickness medication? -- If you are particularly prone to motion sickness, an anti-motion sickness medication is a good idea. These flights are very smooth and turns are slow and gentle. This is a scenic tour, not a thrill ride. Most people do not experience motion sickness and do not need an anti-motion sickness medication.

When is the best time to fly? -- We suggest that you book your helicopter flight prior to arrival in Hawaii. This assures you of a tour time that fits into your vacation plans. It is wise to book a tour early in your stay. That way, if your pilot determines that weather conditions on a particular day are not optimal for a tour, you will have some options for re-scheduling. As far as the best time of day for a helicopter tour - you should consider your personal schedule. Most of the time Hawaii is blessed with beautiful weather and the time of day, whether it be morning or afternoon, will make no difference. If there happens to be a rainy weather pattern, the pilot will consult weather reports and other pilots who have been flying to determine if you can be given a good tour. This flight will not operate unless the pilot is reasonably certain you can be given an excellent experience.

How much experience do the pilots have? -- All pilots are highly experienced; perhaps the most experienced group of helicopter tour pilots anywhere in the world!

Will we be the only ones in the helicopter? How is seating arranged? -- Unless you charter the complete helicopter, you may be sharing the flight with other guests. Pilots try to seat couples and families side by side as much as possible, but cannot guarantee particular seating as it is often dictated by an FAA-approved "weight and balance" program. Visibility for each seat is excellent as there are no cabin partitions which would block part of the view, as is the case on other types of helicopters.

Are we guaranteed to see all of the sights mentioned in your tour descriptions? -- The points of interest mentioned in our tour descriptions are highlights of the tour, which pilots will endeavor to show you depending on wind and weather. Each tour is unique in that you will be shown the best currently available scenery while also trying to accommodate all of your special requests within the generally allotted time.

How low do you fly? -- A Federal Aviation Administration 1500 feet altitude restriction has been in effect since 1994 with deviations to 500 on each major Hawaiian Island. All helicopter operators in Hawaii share the same deviation authority from the FAA to fly as low as 500 feet in the tour areas.

If the tour is canceled due to bad weather will we still be charged? -- If the pilot determines the weather is not good for your tour time, every attempt will be made to reschedule you. If you are unable to reschedule, you will receive a full refund.

Can we store our bags with you while we go on our flight? -- Yes. You may check any of your bags or other valuables at the heliport and they will be secured.
